Brian Luff (aka Brian West) is the author of The Serious Business of Writing & Performing Comedy. He has co-written a comedy series for Channel 4 and worked as Head of Digital Content for two global television networks. He has also performed countless times on the Edinburgh Fringe and London comedy circuit.

Brian was winner of Best Web/TV Series at the Lisbon Film Festival 2020 and the Prague International Film Festival 2020, and was nominated for Best Animated Short at the Paris Film Festival in February 2021. Meanwhile, his comedy podcasts with partner Georgina Sowerby have been downloaded over 12 million times. He is an occasional visiting lecturer on the BA scriptwriting course at Bournemouth University and has run sessions on comedy writing at the BFI. 

Brian has worked as a senior digital producer for the BBC, and during the past 5 years, has written 10 traditional family pantomimes, which have been performed at venues in the UK and United States.

He is a multi award-winning short film maker. In 2018 he wrote and directed an animated comedy series called Explicit Biscuit, which won Best Animation at the East Coast Film Festival, and his animated short “Aristaeus” won the Spirit of the Festival Award at the London Short Series Festival. Brian’s web series The Milton Milton Show was an official selection for the Harrogate Film Festival in March 2020.
